Can I Export My Book to Kindle After Getting Beta Feedback?

Short answer: Yes. On BetaShelf, you can collect beta reader feedback, apply the changes you agree with, and then use KDP Export to make a Kindle ebook (EPUB) and a print-ready paperback interior (PDF) from the same book, without moving your manuscript anywhere else. KDP Export is included with a Book Pass ($29, once) or Unlimited ($10 a month or $99 a year).

Most authors juggle three tools at this stage: one to share the draft, one to revise, and one to format. Here is how it works when it all stays in one place.

1. Collect the feedback

Send each beta reader their own private link (see how to send your manuscript to beta readers). As they read, their inline comments, chapter ratings, answers to your questions and suggested line edits come back to your dashboard.

2. Revise

You stay in charge of what changes. Two ways to work:

  • In BetaShelf. When a reader suggests a line edit, like fixing a typo or rewording a sentence, you can apply it right in the book. The change goes into your chapters.
  • In Word. Download the feedback as a Word document, with readers' comments in the margin and their line edits as tracked changes. Revise there, then upload the new version. BetaShelf keeps each version of your manuscript.

KDP Export doesn't change your book on its own. It formats whatever your chapters say when you run it, so revise first, then export.

3. Export for Kindle and print

Open your book's Writing Tools, then KDP Export under Publish. You get:

  • A Kindle ebook (EPUB) with your cover and a table of contents.
  • A print-ready paperback interior (PDF) in 5x8, 5.5x8.5 or 6x9.
  • Four book styles: Classic, Modern, Romance and Literary, with a large first letter on each chapter and decorative scene breaks.

Picture books have their own print path for KDP and Barnes & Noble.

4. Upload to Amazon KDP

Upload the EPUB as your Kindle ebook manuscript and the PDF as your paperback interior. Your paperback cover is uploaded to KDP separately. KDP gives you a cover template for your exact trim size and page count. For the full walkthrough, see how to self-publish on Amazon KDP and how to format your book for Kindle and print.

Why it helps to keep it in one place

Every time a manuscript moves between tools, there is a chance an old version sneaks back in. Keeping feedback, revisions and formatting together means the files you upload to Amazon come from the same book your readers just helped you improve.

Frequently asked questions

Can BetaShelf export my book for Amazon KDP?

Yes. KDP Export makes a Kindle ebook (EPUB) with your cover and a table of contents, and a print-ready paperback interior PDF in 5x8, 5.5x8.5 or 6x9. It is included with a Book Pass ($29, once) or Unlimited ($10 a month or $99 a year).

Does KDP Export apply my beta readers' feedback automatically?

No. You decide what to change. You can apply readers' suggested line edits right in BetaShelf, then run KDP Export on the revised book. The export uses whatever your chapters say at that moment.

Do I need to upload my manuscript again after revising?

Not if you revise in BetaShelf. Applied line edits change the book itself, so your export picks them up. You can also download all the feedback as a Word document, with comments in the margin and line edits as tracked changes, if you'd rather revise in Word.

Does KDP Export make my paperback cover?

No. KDP Export makes the interior. You upload your paperback cover to KDP separately, using the cover template KDP gives you for your page count and trim size.

BetaShelf helps you collect beta reader feedback, polish your manuscript, and publish or sell your book, all in one place.
